Rules

These rules keep the weekend fair. They apply to everyone taking part in AlphaHack, from Friday 13 to Sunday 15 November 2026 at the LAU Byblos campus. The organisers may clarify them before or during the event; any change is announced to everyone at once.

Who can take part

  • Anyone can take part, whether they code or not: LAU students and students from other universities.
  • Everyone registers as a person, not as a team.
  • Organisers, judges, and mentors do not compete.

Teams

  • A team is 2 to 3 people. You can register alone and form a team on the day; the organisers run a team formation session at the start.
  • A person is in one team. Teams are set when hacking begins and do not change after that, except with an organiser's agreement.

What you build

  • Everything you submit is made during the hackathon, from when hacking begins to when submissions close. Planning, sketches, and learning beforehand are fine; code, designs, or models made before the event are not part of your entry.
  • You may use any public library, framework, API, model, or dataset, and any tool, AI tools included, as long as you say what you used and its licence allows it.
  • Your entry is your team's: the organisers and sponsors take no rights to it. By submitting, you let AlphaHack show and mention your project when it talks about the event.

What you hand in

Every team gets the submission format and the deadline at the start of the event.

Judging

  • Judges see every team, then the finalists present on stage. Their decisions are final.
  • Prizes: 1st $2,000, 2nd $1,000, 3rd $500, awarded on the Sunday. A prize is shared by the team that won it.

Disqualification

A team is disqualified, and forfeits any prize, if it submits work made before the event or by people outside the team, passes off someone else's work as its own, breaks the code of conduct, tampers with another team's work or the venue's equipment, or misses the submission deadline. The organisers decide, and their decision is final.
